Review Double Feature: [REC] (2007) and [REC] 2 (2009)

For the first "real" horror movies of this spooky season, I decided to dig back a bit to my teenage years for a film that I'd seen hyped up but which I never got a chance to see until now... and then, its sequel, because a) the first movie turned out to be awesome, and b) the second film is about as clear-cut a "Part 2" as you can get.

So let's kick off with...

[REC] (2007)

Rated R for bloody horror violence and language

Telluride Horror Show 2022: The Offering (2022), V/H/S/99 (2022), and Christmas Bloody Christmas (2022)

Some Halloween leftovers: a couple of weeks ago, I got the opportunity to travel to Telluride, Colorado and take in the last day of the Telluride Horror Show, a horror film festival held every year in October. What, just because I couldn't make Popcorn Frights doesn't mean I'm totally bereft of local horror festivals!

First up, a movie that grabbed my attention from the premise alone...

Popcorn Frights Wicked Weekend 2020, Day 1: Grizzly II: Revenge (1983), Smiley Face Killers (2020), The Retreat (2020), The Vigil (2019), They Reach (2020)

Just in time for Halloween, it seems as though Popcorn Frights is going all-out for round two, this time running the streaming festival themselves. For the first day, we get a long-lost killer bear slasher from the '80s with a cast of future A-listers, the latest from Bret Easton Ellis, a monster movie, a Jewish twist on supernatural horror, and a trip back in time to the late '70s.

To start...

Popcorn Frights 2019, Day 4: The Unthinkable (2018), Artik (2019), Infection (2019), Satanic Panic (2019), Z (2019)

Popcorn Frights 2019's second weekend gauntlet was another doozy, packed with a diverse lineup of films that included a war thriller, torture porn, zombies, Satanic horror-comedy, and supernatural horror.

First up, it's Red Dawn, Swedish style.

Popcorn Frights, Night 4: Tigers Are Not Afraid (2018), St. Agatha (2018), Cold Skin (2018)

Night 4 of Popcorn Frights was probably the most consistent of the bunch so far, producing two very solid mainstream horror movies and one that, while lacking the others' wide appeal, was an out-and-out great one.

First, we start the night with the great one. Coming from Mexican filmmaker Issa López...

Popcorn Frights, Night 2: Summer of 84 (2018), Satan's Slaves (2017), What Keeps You Alive (2018), and The Farm (2018)

Night 2 of the Popcorn Frights Film Festival just took place, with an even bigger slate of films than the night before. Some hits, but also some misses.

To start, we have an '80s-styled throwback serial killer movie...
